Trio Concept was formed in 2013 by three musicians from Turin — Edoardo Grieco (violin), Francesco Massimino (cello), and Lorenzo Nguyen (piano) — who first came together as young artists.
In October 2024, the ensemble decided to change its original name from Trio Chagall to Trio Concept to emphasize the cohesion of an artistic journey spanning over a decade, centred on the idea of the trio as the core of their musical activity and a constant source of creative inspiration.
The new name is inspired by Michelangelo Buonarroti’s words, reflecting the trio’s artistic commitment: to seek out and present the beauty inherent in every work, which comes to life through performance, just as the sculptor reveals the perfect form within a block of marble.
Trio Concept was named an ECHO Rising Star for the 2025/2026 season and, following a three-week residency at the 2024 Verbier Festival Academy, was honoured with the Prix Yves Paternot, the festival’s highest honour in recognition of outstanding talent and potential. In 2023, the ensemble became a YCAT Artist after a triumphant final performance at Wigmore Hall, London. That same year, it secured first prize at the Schoenfeld International Competition in Harbin, China, and was selected as the ensemble in residence for ProQuartet in Paris.
In Italy, Trio Concept won the second prize in 2019 — with the first prize not awarded — as well as three special prizes at the “Premio Trio di Trieste,” becoming, with an average age of just twenty years, the youngest chamber ensemble ever awarded in the history of the competition. The Trio was also chosen by the jury of the Accademia Chigiana as the winner of the “Premio Giovanna Maniezzo,” was named “Ensemble of the Year 2020/2021” by Le Dimore del Quartetto, and subsequently became ensemble in residence for Comitato Amur for the year 2023/2024. The Trio has been supported by Associazione De Sono.
Will Duerden, who comes from a musical family, started playing the double bass aged 7. Two years later, he was awarded a full scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School, where his teacher was Caroline Emery. He counts playing as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician at the Wigmore Hall among the highlights from his time at the school. Will attended the Royal College of Music for his undergraduate studies continuing with Caroline Emery, and was awarded a full ABRSM scholarship. He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at the Royal College with Rodrigo Moro Martin.
Today, Will pursues an active freelance career in different musical avenues. As a keen chamber musician, he has worked with such fine artists as Lawrence Power, the Sitkovetsky Trio and the Echea Quartet. Will is a member of the LGT Young Soloists, a group of outstanding young musicians who perform internationally in venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
Following a rigorous audition process which culminated with a final audition at Wigmore Hall in June 2023, Will was selected to join the prestigious Young Classical Artists Trust’s (YCAT) roster. Alongside artistic management, the Trust provides performing opportunities in the UK and abroad as well as other career advancement and developmental opportunities.
Named a Classical FM 2025 Rising Star, Jaren Ziegler won the BBC Young Musician Strings Final in 2022 aged 16, becoming the first violist in the competition’s history to do so. In the Grand Final, he performed Walton’s Viola Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Mark Wigglesworth. This led to concerto performances with the London Mozart Players, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Royal Orchestral Society, Stamford Chamber Orchestra, Purcell School Orchestra, Schubert Ensemble, Bishop Stortford Sinfonia, Albion Orchestra, Opera North Youth Orchestra, Bristol Symphony Orchestra, Oxford Chamber Orchestra and the London International Concert Orchestra as well as recitals including Cheltenham Festival, Bath Festival, Lammermuir Festival, Oxford Coffee Concerts and St Georges Bristol.
Upcoming concert highlights include YCAT’s 40th Anniversary at Aldeburgh Festival, Berlioz’s Harold en Italie at the last night of the Proms at St Judes, and Vaughan William’s Piano Quintet at Wigmore Hall.
In 2023, Jaren participated in the Verbier Festival Academy Soloist Programme and the Kronberg Academy Festival Masterclasses, where he was chosen by Tabea Zimmermann to perform in the ‘Entdeckungen-Konzert’. He is a member of the international string ensemble, LGT Young Soloists and has performed at Wigmore Hall, Brahms-Saal Musikverein, Victoria Hall Singapore, Royal Festival Hall and Philharmonie Luxembourg. Jaren has been honoured to work with artists including Sini Simonen, Elena Urioste, Ben Goldscheider, Ryan Wigglesworth, Trio Concept and the Heath Quartet.
Recent competition first prizes include the Peter Morrison Concerto Competition at the Junior Royal College of Music and Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform. Jaren was also the youngest participant in the 2021 Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition.
Jaren came to the Junior Royal Academy of Music at the age of 8 where he studied with Jacky Woods for 10 years.
He is currently a first year student at the Royal Academy of Music studying with Hélène Clément. He has participated in numerous masterclasses including with Tabea Zimmermann, Timothy Ridout, Antoine Tamestit, Nobuko Imai and Lawrence Power.
Jaren is grateful to YCAT for their generous support in their aftercare scheme for BBC Young Musician finalists. He plays a Stefano Scarampella viola, kindly loaned to him by the Beare’s International Violin Society.
